Statistics Update
- Angela Bailey reviewed the “Atlantic County Cancer Fact Sheet” with the members. Angela noted there is room for improvement in many areas especially those numbers in bold italics. These numbers were at least 10% higher than the corresponding state rate. Other areas of concern for Atlantic County were Lung cancer and all cancers mortality rate. Angela has these flyers in English and Spanish if anyone would like to take them on outreach events. You can find the statistics for other counties by going to the New Jersey state website.
Review of Mission and Goals

Angela also reviewed the three main goals chosen by the Coalition. The mission statement and goals are printed on ACHLC flyer. If you would like additional copies please contact Angela.

Other Projects
- Family Fun Day at Egg Harbor Township/Patch
- The coalition participated in the Family Fun Day on August 9th to offer the NJDHSS Youth Awareness Patch to children. This was our first time and it educated children on tobacco, skin cancer, nutrition and exercise. The children read, felt, and looked at interesting things, completed a 10 question quiz and then receive a certificate and a patch. We had 33 children participate in the patch program that evening.
- The coalition will be going to the 3rd Annual Northfield Family Health & Fitness Day on Saturday, February 7, 2009 from 12pm – 3pm. This event will be held at the Northfield Community School. We will again be offering the NJDHSS Youth Awareness Patch to the children. Any coalition members who would like to volunteer to help us orchestrate that day would be appreciated.
Updates:

- Marge Scanny reported on the CEED numbers. The goal is to screen 800 women for breast and cervical cancer this year. In the first quarter 161 women have been screened for cervical cancer and 79 women for breast cancer. The cervical screening numbers are higher due to younger women having their pap test done but are not age appropriate to have a mammogram screening performed.
