This activity has been submitted to New Jersey State Nurses Association for approval to award contact hours. New Jersey State Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s COA.
This event is approved for 2.0 CEs for Social Workers,Marriage & Family Therapists, and LPCs.
Purpose: The purpose of the event is for participants to understand what colon cancer is, what does it
affect, the risk factors that are associated with colon cancer and how colon cancer is treated and what are
the outcomes. A psychosocial piece will be included in this year’s program to discuss how patients cope with cancer and what professionals can do to help them through their treatment psychologically.
Objectives:
(1) Define the epidemiology and risk factors associated with the development of colon cancer.
(2) List screening recommendations for colon cancer. Identify when men/women should start and how often they should receive colon screenings.
(3) Describe three ways to diagnose colon cancer and list possible treatment options.
(4) Describe how to measure cancer patient distress by using the NCCN/ACS guidelines and assessment tool.
(5) Identify patients with high distress scores and explain follow up processes.
